The taste is usually sweet and acidic, with a strong astringent edge, but its apple-like texture can vary from very dry and crumbly (salak pondoh from Yogyakarta) to moist and crunchy (salak Bali).

Nutritional Value

Salak has high levels of potassium, thiamine, iron, calcium and vitamin C. It also has anti-diarrheal properties and if too much of the fruit is consumed it can result in constipation.
